The sprawling savanna grasslands of Murchison Falls National Park
host an incredible diversity of animals including four of the famed African
Big Five - Lions, Elephants, Leopards and Buffalos. The park had thousands of Rhinos to
have all the big five but they were eliminated by poaching and civil wars of the 1970s.
In Uganda, Rhinos can only be found in the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, situated in
Nakitoma town, along the highway to Murchison. This Uganda safari offers a trek in the Sanctuary to track
these majestic animals before proceeding to Murchison Falls National Park for the rest of the big five plus an array of wildlife.
Prepare for pick-up from your hotel at exactly 7.00am to start the trip. Travel through the Luwero Triangle where you expect to pick a couple of fruits say pineapples, proceed and get to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Set out on foot to track the rhinos, and expect to sight a number of other wildlife such as hippos, oribis, crocodiles and some birds. Return and check out of the sanctuary, continue the drive and get to Masindi town for lunch.
After lunch drive out of Masindi town and get to Murchison Falls National Park via the Kichubanyobo Gate. Drive for about 1 and 1/2 hours into the park and get to the top of the spectacular Murchison Falls. You get to witness the entire Nile squeezing through a small of cleft about 7 meters wide and busting into the world's strongest waterfall. The sight is one to behold.
Thereafter drive to your lodge and check in for dinner and overnight.
