Mountain gorilla trekking is one of the most unique and best wildlife adventures the African continent has got to offer. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to half of the world's rare and endangered mountain gorillas.
With about 12 habituated gorilla families, it is undoubtedly the place for the Ultimate Gorilla Experience. Primate life and Bird life in Bwindi Forest National Park is quite outstanding, and there is an incredible variety of flora.
Have an early breakfast and meet with our company driver guide for a briefing about your 3 days gorilla tracking / trekking trip to Bwindi forest at 7:00 am and get ready to depart at exactly 7:15 am to drive South West of Uganda via Masaka, Mabara, Rukungiri and finally Bwindi.
Your lunch break will be in Mbarara town at the famous Agip Motel OR Igongo Cultural village. Proceed via Ishasha region in Queen Elizabeth National Park for chances of spotting some wildlife like Antelpoes, Giraffes, Buffaloes, Waterbucks, elephants and if more lucky, tree climbing lions up in the fig trees. Get to Buhoma region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest national park and check into your preffered lodge.
Be up by 6:30 am, put on your trekking attire, have breakfast at 7:00 am, grab your packed lunch and transfer to the park offices. At the park offices you join with other trekkers for briefing by your guide or game ranger. By 8;00 am, in a group comprising of not more eight trekkers, along with a guide, an armed ranger and porters, you penetrate the bwindi forest to track your assigned gorilla group.
The trek takes you through steep and slippery jungle grounds of the forest. The period taken to locate these shy giants varies from a few minutes to several hours. Chances of not locating the gorillas are very minimal, in fact by the time you start the trek, your guide or game ranger already has an idea of where to find them. He uses his knowledge of gorilla movements and their known location the previous day.
When you finally locate your gorilla group, a maximum of one hour is allowed to observe and photograph the gorillas. Though strenous, the trek is quite an ambience with a lot of wildlife encounters such as monkeys, forest birds, beautiful flowers, trees and shrubs.
Transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
